Director of Risk Control and Safety Services
Steve Danon is the Director of Risk Control and Safety Services. He has more than twenty-five years of experience in Occupational Safety, Life Safety, & Contingency Planning. He has held professional life-safety positions with several California jurisdictions and as an adjunct instructor for the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. While in the Air Force Reserve he served on special assignment to the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a Contingency Planning Specialist. As a Senior Instructor for the Omaha Public Power District-Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Station he was responsible for the development and instruction of safety, emergency response, and nuclear fire protection suppression procedures. As an Occupational Safety & Health Director with a chapter of the National Safety Council he managed all occupational safety program development, providing training and consultant services to business and industrial operations throughout the Midwest.
For over 15 years, Steve has focused on the Risk Services-Loss Control area providing direct assistance to businesses in Nebraska and nationwide. As the Director of Risk Control Services for Marcotte, he coordinates service to our customers with a directed purpose of controlling exposures, increasing efficiencies and decreasing the costs associated with loss. Prior to Marcotte he held positions with two of the largest business insurance companies in the U.S. and with the second largest business insurance agency in the world. Steve has been a reserve lieutenant firefighter for a large Nebraska suburban fire department, nationally and Nebraska/California certified Emergency Medical Technician, and a First Aid/CPR national instructor (train-the-trainer). He is an active member of the American Society of Safety Engineers-Great Plains Chapter and has served as an adjunct Occupational Safety Program Instructor for Metropolitan Community College Omaha, Nebraska. Steve is the past Chairman of the Local Emergency Planning Committee for Sarpy County and is a past member of the Douglas County Local Emergency Planning Committee. He has recently served on the Command Staff as the Safety Officer for the tri-county (Douglas, Washington, Sarpy) Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) a national Homeland Security program to enhance security and overall preparedness to prevent, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism. He is also serving on the Douglas County Health Department’s Pandemic Influenza Policy Committee. The Governor of Nebraska recently re-appointed him to the Nebraska Emergency Response Commission.
Steve has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Management of Human Resources. He is an Authorized OSHA Outreach instructor. Additionally, Steve has resident management level courses from the National Emergency Training Center/National Fire Academy Federal Emergency Management Institute, Texas A&M University, Oklahoma State University, California State University-San Diego, National Safety Council and the OSHA Training Institute. A transplant from Southern California, Steve lives in Omaha with his two children.
